Learn to Fly Fish:    

I started fishing as a boy of  nine,  dangling worms, maggots and pieces of bread paste in a local pond and catching small roach.  By the time I was ten and during school holidays, my father would drop me off  at a pond on his way to work and pick me up on his way home.   I would sit for hours staring at a float and watching huge carp swimming about.  Eventually I caught one and was myself well and truly hooked. The excitement of the take has stayed with me ever since.

As a teenager I progressed to sea fishing and by my early twenties converted to fly fishing for trout, when still water trout fisheries where just beginning to get established – I have now been fly fishing for over forty years.

In late 2000 I decided that I wanted to impart the knowledge that I had gained over the years to others and started studying for the Salmon and Trout Associations National Instructors Certificate which I passed in 2001.  I subsequently joined the Game Angling Instructors Association and have been a member ever since, teaching children and adults alike.  I am currently attending mentoring sessions to take my Advanced Professional Instructors Assessment.

I have taken Child Awareness Course and hold a current DBS Certificate which has superseded The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Check.  This allows me to work with children and vulnerable members of the public.

I continuously keep up with all the latest techniques and equipment and regularly attend professional  development courses  and training and I now teach all aspects of fly fishing from casting single and double handed rods, fishing etiquette, watercraft including reading the water and lough boat handling, fishing knots and fly tying.  In other words we can deliver a complete learn to fly fish package

I operate across Sussex, Hampshire, Kent and Surrey and also run guided fishing breaks in Southern Ireland from my base in Co. Kerry.

To enable me to share my passion for fly fishing and to enable me to teach both children and adults I embarked, a quarter of a century ago, upon becoming a qualified and licensed Game Angling Coach specialising in Trout. To this day I continue to develop my skills as a fly angler and as a coach / instructor through continued professional development to ensure my clients can be assured of the very best service using the most up to date techniques.
